Duino-Aurisina, TS
The square of Aurisina, is located in the centre of the town in front of the church of San Rocco, from which it takes its name. It is in fact an enlarged street that ends with the monument to the fallen soldiers of World War Two, used as a traffic divider. Currently the square is used as a free parking space for cars and other vehicles.
The project involves the pedestrianization of a large part of the square, deviating the traffic towards the old part of the town, and the fractions of Aurisina Stazione and Aurisina Cave. The reduced vehicular access will allow the square to return to its original function of meeting space, as well as to encourage the reopening of the many shops that once existed.
Particular care was taken in the choice of the materials used for the new flooring. Local stones such as Repen marble, Muggia Sandstone and Aurisina Chiara were chosen. It was also planned the rearrangement of the green, using tree qualities already present in the territory, such as linden, elm and holm oak. The street furniture, street lamps and loot will be made of corten steel while the benches will be built in flowered Aurisina stone.
